Common Issue

If your X-rays fail to send or your imaging software reports a communication error, the most likely cause is that the DICOM listening service in PostureRay has stopped (often due to Windows updates, network instability, or leaving PostureRay open for long periods).

Quick Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check the DICOM Button in PostureRay
    • Open PostureRay.
    • Look at the DICOM (DCM) button on the main interface.
    • If there is no red number badge, the DICOM service is not running.
  2. Restart the DICOM Service
    • Click the DCM button.
    • In the dialog that appears, select Exit.
    • PostureRay will restart the DICOM listener automatically.
    • You should now see a red badge with a “0” or a number, confirming it’s active.
  3. Re-send X-rays from Your Imaging Software
    • Go to your PACS or X-ray software.
    • Ensure the IP address and AE title are correctly configured (as they were when communication previously worked).
    • Send the X-rays again.
    • You should see them begin transferring successfully, without an error message.
  4. Verify Receipt in PostureRay
    • After a few minutes, PostureRay will display a count on the DICOM button as X-rays are received.
    • Open the patient (e.g., “Jane Doe”) to confirm the new images have arrived.

Best Practice

Before sending any X-rays each day:

  • Open PostureRay.
  • Check that the DICOM button shows a red badge with a number.
  • If not, click it once and restart the listener before sending.

Summary:
Always verify the DICOM listener is active before sending X-rays. No badge = inactive. Click and restart to re-enable. This prevents failed transfers caused by Windows or network events.
