Have a Question?
When the networked edition of PostureRay stops showing the most recent x-rays in the online ViewBox, the images typically have not been uploaded. In almost every instance, the workstation you designated as the primary PostureRay computer is either powered off or PostureRay is not running on it, preventing new studies from syncing. Because PostureCo, Inc. cannot control which computer you open, ensuring the correct workstation is active is solely the responsibility of your clinic’s staff.
The following tutorial walks you through how to identify the current designated workstation—or assign a new one—so uploads resume smoothly.

Identifying (and Changing) the PostureRay “Backup” Workstation for Cloud Sync
Purpose
This document explains how to determine which workstation on your PostureRay network is currently acting as the Cloud Backup PC—and how to change that designation when needed.
Prerequisites: Networked License for Multi Computer PostureRay Installation.
Network | Workstations must be on the same LAN and be able to reach the Viewbox server (or “Surface” PC) |
Best Practice
Designate the workstation that is powered on most consistently (often the imaging server) as the backup PC. A constantly-used work PC may be shut down or rebooted more often, interrupting automated backups.
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Launch PostureRay
- Log in to any PostureRay workstation (Windows) by double clicking the Launch PostureRay icon on the desktop.
- Login to the PostureRay Viewbox.
- PostureRay should login automatically but if prompted, enter your PostureRay Viewbox username and password.
2. Check the Current Backup Workstation
- In the Settings, locate and click the “Backup” icon
- A dialog appears displaying two key values:
- Backup From PC: <ComputerName>
- Key: <numeric value – not relevant to workstation selection>
- Backup From PC shows the Windows computer name currently assigned as the backup workstation (e.g., Surface).
3. Confirm the Computer You Are Using
- On the same workstation, open the Windows Start menu.
- Type System Information and press Enter.
- In the System Information window, locate System Name at the top.
- Example: ACER-LAPTOP
Compare this name with the Backup From PC value you saw in step 2 to decide whether you’re already on the designated backup machine.
4. Change the Backup Workstation (if required)
If you need to designate the current PC as the backup:
- In the Backup dialog (from step 2), click Backup from this computer.
- Confirm the prompt by selecting OK.
- The dialog will refresh, showing this PC’s System Name as the Backup From PC.
- Example: ACER-LAPTOP now appears.
Note: Switching the backup PC updates the Cloud sync key automatically; no manual key entry is required.
Verifying Cloud Backups
- Wait for the next scheduled backup (or run a manual backup if enabled).
- Log in to your PostureRay Cloud viewbox to confirm that new X-Ray backups are ready to be viewed and all recent patient x-rays have appeared including the last set of X-Rays.
Troubleshooting Tips
Symptom | Possible Cause | Resolution |
Backup icon shows “Offline” | Workstation cannot reach the internet or Viewbox server | Check LAN, firewall, and DNS settings; ensure Viewbox server is online. |
Wrong computer listed after reboot | A different workstation was set as backup previously | Repeat Step 4 to re-assign the correct PC. |
Backups stop at night | Designated PC is powered off overnight | Choose a server or always-on PC instead. |
